A Quad Of Brunettes Or 4 Non Blondes

Formed in 1989 in San Francisco, California, Four Non Blondes left their mark on the pop music world with one major hit, “What’s Up?”. The band continued to tour and released singles such as “Dear Mr. President”, “Spaceman”, and “Mary’s House” which was included on the soundtrack to Wayne’s World 2. Despite the popularity of “What’s Up?”, they never really got off the ground in a major way, perhaps in part due to the political nature of many of their songs.

The original lineup included Linda Perry on guitar and vocals, Christa Hillhouse on bass, Shaunna Hall on guitar, and Drummer Wanda Day. Before releasing their first album, “Bigger, Better, Faster, More!”, Roger Rocha replaced Shaunna Hall on guitar, and Dawn Richardson took over on drums. Though the band split in 1995, the lead singer, Linda Perry has had a great deal of success in the music industry as a producer and songwriter, working with such talent as Christina Aguilera, Pink, Courtney Love, Gwen Stefani, and Kelly Clarkson to name a few.

The color of their hair aside, this very bright flash in the pan from the early nineties will always be remembered for their greatest gift, Linda Perry, who not only brought us that age old question “What’s going on?’, but is still vicariously asking us to “Get it started in here”.
